The Australian Pink Floyd back at the Bell Center!
Celebrating their 15th anniversary, The Australian Pink Floyd show, Floyd's best known tribute band, will be back once again in Montreal this Tuesday, December 16 2008 at the Bell Center Theatre (1260 De La Gauchetière West).

Since the performance of Pink Floyd at Live 8, London in July 2005 interest in The Australian pink Floyd Show has further increased, selling thousands of tickets in Europe this summer. Their sell out show in Liverpool, England sold over 8,000 tickets.

The show is a phenomenon! What started out over ten years ago in Adelaide, Australia, has evolved into a truly magnificent sound and light spectacle performing to hundreds of thousands of people at major venues around the globe.  David Gilmour, Pink Floyd's guitarist, is a fan himself, having witnessed the Australian Pink Floyd Show three times.

These Aussie kindred spirits have amassed a dedicated crew of over twenty like-minded obsessives, all addicted to the gloriously pioneering psychedelia of Gilmour, Waters, Barrett, Wright, and Mason. Together they travel the planet putting on this spellbinding re-creation of the cream of the Pink Floyd catalogue, fulfilling the desire of Floyd fans everywhere who crave to hear these amazing songs performed live once again.

It’s a tantalizing voyage, from the trippy Barrett era to the mystery of
Dark Side of The Moon, from the majesty of Wish You Were Here to the twisted intensity of Animals, from the relentless power of The Wall through to the lush grandeur of The Final Cut and The Division Bell. Floyd fans who haven’t yet witnessed the show are seriously missing out. Believe the hype, it’s as good as everyone says. Here are some reviews: "The best tribute show in the world" – London Times "I never thought I would hear this music live again, you must go and see this show" – Los Angeles Times.

The show begins at 7:00 PM and tickets are $44.50 plus taxes and fees, available through Admission by phone at (514) 790-1245 or online at www.admission.com. A Gillett Entertainment Group presentation.

ProgtoberFest last-minute lineup change
Progtoberfest 2008 is just a few hours away and they are unfortunately sorry to announce that due to unforseen circumstances, Interférence Sardines and Talisma are unable to appear at this year's Progtoberfest 2008. Originally booked way back in April, we were all looking forward to seeing the Sardines in the Ottawa / Gatineau area.

As this is quite last minute, Progtoberfest are very lucky to have local psych / avant / drone / improv / acid folk group Butterflies & Zebras come to our rescue as our new opening act.

Originally inspired by the sonic tapestries of Jimi Hendrix but adding folk, free-jazz, blues and world music into the mix, Butterflies & Zebras is composed of Norm Howard on electric guitar, Steve Northover on acoustic & electric guitars and Ken Walker, african percussion. They explore the use of unorthodox sound in a musical context, using two guitars and now with percussion, live with no overdubs, they produce a rich tapestry of sound which has been aptly described by the Ottawa Citizen as "Acid without the Acid". Check out their MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/butterfliesandzebras

The guys from Karcius have graciously accepted to substitute for Talisma, raising the intensity level of the event by a few notches!

This year's ProgtoberFest will be held on
Saturday, October 18 2008 in the beatiful 225-seat Salle Jean Desprez auditorium (25, Rue Laurier • 819-243-8000) in Gatineau, which is just across the river from downtown Ottawa.

The other bands featured this year are:
from Winnipeg, Mahogany Frog, canterbury influenced space jazz... and Ottawa-based fusion legends Spyral Jones, reforming this year after a very long hiatus and featuring bass player Donald Prince (Nathan Mahl). For those that like to rock, there will be a Friday night pre-show ( October 17) that will be held at Mavericks/Café Dékuf (221 Rideau Street, Ottawa) featuring shred monster Stéphane Lévesque aka Mr. Rubber Finger and Ottawa-based Widow's Walk with their complex progressive metal goodness!

PREMIER CIEL TO PRESENT HARMONIUM AT FMPM 2008
Le Festival des Musiques Progressives de Montreal (FMPM) is pleased to announce that Harmonium tribute band Premier Ciel will perform on Friday September 12th, 2008 at the Centre Pierre Peladeau as the pre-show of this year’s festival. Formed in 2002, Premier Ciel has gained increased renown for its authentic live renditions of the Harmonium repertoire, and is the only ensemble authorized by Serge Fiori to publicly perform this legendary group’s works. Premier Ciel’s current line-up includes seven world-class musicians, with the same configuration as the
L'Heptade live tour. The group will perform material from all the Harmonium albums including L’Heptade, in two distinct sets. Please visit www.premierciel.com for more information. This unique performance is a co-production between Premier Ciel and Musique ProgresSon. Tickets to the Premier Ciel show are sold separately on FMPM's Tickets page.

INTERFERENCE SARDINES TO REPLACE UNEXPECT
Quebec City's Interference Sardines will be replacing UnexpecT who have received an opportunity to tour the Southern US during September. This has given FMPM the chance to invite one of Quebec's finest experimental groups instead. With a style combining rock, musique actuelle, improv, folk, jazz, and everything else, most progressive rock fans would most easily classify them as avant-progressive. The band has just released their third album,
Spot de Rue, and their entire catalog is available on Wayside Music.

KNIGHT AREA REPLACES MAGENTA
Some bad news and good news with the FMPM line-up. Rob Reed of Magenta is going to be a father in September, which unfortunately means no gigging for the group at that time. Although we had already signed the contract with the group, we did not feel it was reasonable to ask them to perform in a situation where they would not want to be here. We wish Rob all the best with the new album and his family, and hope to work with Magenta in 2009.

Luckily for us, Dutch modern symphonic rock group Knight Area has agreed to join the FMPM line-up for 2008. This was a group we had hoped to work with this year and were having trouble finding a way to make it work, which now becomes possible with Magenta's withdrawal. Knight Area released their first album,
The Sun Also Rises, in 2004. This album featured old and new material from the band members, some dating back to the 1980s, and quickly made a splash in the progressive rock community leading to an appearance at NEARfest 2005. As promising as the first album was, 2007's Under a New Sign takes the group to the next level, with an approach and quality very comparable to British group (and past FMPM headliners) IQ. These days with many modern/neo progressive groups changing to heavier or poppier styles, Knight Area unapologetically shows a mastery of the conventions of symphonic rock, and will delight their growing fanbase in Montreal this coming September.

GET SPACED OUT AT FMPM 2008
World-class fusion trio Spaced Out will hit the stage this September at FMPM 2008. Formed by bassist Antoine Fafard and originally having the name Cortex, several different line-ups came and went before the group were signed to Unicorn Digital to release their first (self-titled) album in 2000. They were the first band on Unicorn Digital, apart from label founder Michel St-Père's own Mystery, and are to this day one of its most popular and best-selling groups. Drummer Martin Maheux has been there since 1998, while guitarist Mark Tremblay has been with the group since the live dates following their second album, entitled
Eponymus II. Two studio albums have followed in recent years, 2003's Slow Gin and 2006's Unstable Matter, which was the heaviest to date, allowing touches of metal to fuse with the jazz and rock influences already present. During this time the group has stayed active in a live setting, performing at NEARFest, as well as the Crescendo Festival in France. Two live DVDs are available to demonstrate their prowess. The music of the group is a heavy instrumental fusion that is compared to everything from Return to Forever to Planet X, with Fafard's own bass style reminiscent at times of Jaco Pastorius.

CHARLES KACZYNSKI TO PERFORM AT FMPM
Charles Kaczynski was a violinist with the pioneering musique actuelle group Conventum in the late 1970s. After leaving the group, he released his solo masterpiece
Lumière de la Nuit on which he played more than a dozen instruments. An obscurity long treasured by collectors, it was finally reissued on CD by ProgQuebec in 2005. Featuring a heavy string presence, with piano, guitar, woodwinds, and percussion, this mostly instrumental suite has elements of folk and chamber music and is reminiscent of Mike Oldfield, l'Engoulevent, Flarick, and others. Charles has stayed active in music performing in a variety of settings and styles, and has worked as the musical director and performer with the Cirque Éloize. This September Charles will give an hour-long performance of the suite, which will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness one of the highlights of the 1970s progressive music scene in Quebec.

UNIVERS ZÉRO TO HEADLINE FMPM
Belgian chamber rock group and original Rock in Opposition member Univers Zero will headline the Sunday portion of FMPM 2008. Formed in the mid-1970s by drummer and leader Daniel Denis, Univers Zero has undergone several transformations during its existence, from dark acoustic chamber music inspired by Béla Bartók and H.P. Lovecraft, to a more electronic sound with use of synthesizers in the 1980s, and finally a more melodic, refined chamber-rock for the new Millennium. The ten CD releases that catalogue these three periods are acclaimed by followers of new music and Univers Zero have influenced countless other groups being practically the blueprint for chamber-rock. After avoiding live performance for decades, the modern incarnation of Univers Zero embraced it, with powerful appearances at festivals in Europe and a headlining performance at NEARFest 2004. Their first ever live album was released on Cuneiform Records in 2006, and their first album
1313 is to be reissued by Cuneiform in mid-2008. The current line-up of Univers Zero features Daniel Denis (drums), Michel Berckmans (woodwinds), Pierre Chevalier (keyboards), Martin Lauwers (violin), Dimitri Evers (bass), and Kurt Budé (clarinet, sax). Univers Zero is currently working on a new studio album.

RIVERSIDE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN CANADA
Poland’s Riverside has made a name for themselves over the past five years with the “Reality Dream” trilogy of releases. From 2003’s
Out of Myself (on the Laser’s Edge label), 2005’s Second Life Syndrome and 2007’s Rapid Eye Movement (both on the InsideOut label), they have developed a growing following with a melodically attractive, sometimes heavy, sometimes psychedelic sound. Crunchy guitars, atmospheric keyboard passages and Mariusz Duda’s powerful vocals have combined to make Riverside one of the most popular groups straddling the line between progressive rock and progressive metal. The music on these albums has been compared to groups as diverse as Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Pink Floyd and Pain of Salvation, but one also hears similarities to the Polish neo-progressive school of Collage, Satellite, Quidam, and others. Riverside performed for the first time in North America at NEARFest 2006, and they have played a number of art rock festivals in Europe. After supporting Dream Theater on European dates earlier this year, they are now touring in support of Rapid Eye Movement. FMPM 2008 will be Riverside’s first ever performance in Canada.

BANCO HEADLINES FMPM 2008
Performing for the first time in Canada, Italian symphonic rock group Il Banco del Mutuo Soccorso will be a headlining act at the 2008 edition of the FMPM. Existing since 1969, Banco has released some of the undisputed classics of the progressive rock era, including
Darwin!, Io Sono Nato Libero, and ...di Terra. With beautiful classically oriented compositions and the powerful vocals of Francesco di Giacomo, Banco is considered by many to be the greatest Italian progressive group.

A great, varied lineup! Gold tickets are sold out but regular tickets are still available right now through ProgQuébec and Admission!

Avenged Sevenfold in Montreal
A7X is coming to Montreal on Wednesday September 10 2008 at the Metropolis (59 Sainte-Catherine Street East, Montreal) for what promises to be a hard hitting night of rock!

Avenged Sevenfold continues to support its self-titled set from last fall, the band's fourth studio album and sophomore major label effort. Released in October, the disc debuted at #4 on The Billboard Charts, with over 90,000 copies sold in its first week in stores. The album represents a more experimental side of the band, which worked with a variety of guest artists on the record, including Nashville's Muzik Mafia conglomerate.

But fans shouldn't be alarmed at the shift in musical direction. "We still have a ton of killer solos in there. We still have drums going 120 beats per minute," mentions bassist Johnny Christ. "We're still doing some nutty stuff. But we're experimenting with groove-oriented things, some slower beats. ... I think people can look back on this one and say, 'I see the early influences.'"

The concert will begin at 7:00 PM and tickets for that show are available through Ticketpro or at the Metropolis boxoffice and will cost $35.50 in advance or $40.00 at the door on the day of the show.

Rock In Opposition 2009
Perhaps one of the most prestigious event in the world of avant garde music and RIO since the very first festival back in 1978 when Chris Cutler and Fred Frith started the whole RIO movement, the Rock In Opposition France Event 2007 was a resounding success and attracted people from all over the world. Now it's back!

The Rock In Opposition France Event 2009 will be held on
April 17, 18, 19 2009 at the Maison de la Musique, Cap'Découverte in Carmaux, France. Here is the official announcement from the organizer, the legendary Roger Trigaux of the group Present:

"The first edition of the France R.I.O. Festival, held in Carmaux in 2007, confirmed the enthusiasm of a large audience, coming from all over the world to attend this event, that some have labelled historic. To keep away from a certain routine that could harm the integrity of our musical choices and to secure firm financial and artistic partnerships, we decided that the next installment of the France R.I.O. would take place in 2009.

So, the R.I.O. now becomes a biennial event. As the preparation of such an event is time-consuming, this frequency should provide us with the distance needed to conceive a programme as demanding and innovative as the first edition. Once again, the Rock In Opposition 2009 will be an event of international quality. It will be held in the same musical venue that proved to be the perfect setting for listeners to enjoy really innovative music in optimal conditions: the "Maison de la Musique de Cap Découverte".

With an additional feature however: a special Opening Day will also be organised in Albi. During the Festival, specific locations will be dedicated to record labels, press representatives or any relevant “movement” showing some fighting spirit in the field of contemporary musical expression. Specific venues will also be provided to facilitate dialogue between the musicians and the audience. Additional activities, such as artist residences, workshops, conferences, exhibitions and installations will also be organised within the framework of the festival. The programme will be finalised by the end of September 2008 but the “Artists” section of the website will be regularly updated in order to keep you informed of “work in progress”.

Rock is a struggle, a protest against injustice, a way of resisting everything that degrades the human being and his environment... A way of building a world more like us, a world based on self- and mutual respect... With no constraints and no concessions. More than ever, Rock has to innovate, provoke, confront... More than ever, Rock has to be in opposition..."
- Roger Trigaux

The confirmed lineup as of today includes:

Day 1
The Muffins
Magma (40th anniversary performance)

Day 2
Present
Charles Hayward
Aranis
Sleepytime Gorilla Museum

Day 3
Yolk (Switzerland)

Tickets will be available soon.

Canvas Solaris releases The Atomized Dream
The Atomized Dream is the fourth full length release from this Georgia-based instrumental metal band. With a new expanded lineup, the Canvas Solaris sound continues to evolve.

The band has shown tremendous growth since their beginnings in 1999, evolving out of the death metal/mathcore scene. Dropping their vocalist along the way, the band decided to emphasize intricate arrangements, creating compositions that only the most adept musicians could play. Canvas Solaris’ music resonated equally with fans of technical metal co-horts Behold the Arctopus and Spastic Ink as well as bands like Don Caballero and Dillinger Escape Plan. Following the recording of their third album,
Cortical Tectonics, the lineup saw a radical change. Band founders Nathan Sapp (guitars) and Hunter Ginn (drums) replaced departing guitarist/bassist Ben Simpkins with 3 new members. Joining are Chris Rushing on guitars, Donnie Smith on keyboards, and Gaël Pirlot on bass.

While the core sound has remained, these new members have clearly made their mark. Keyboards now play a more prominent role, while the twin guitar interplay is mesmerizing. The band continues to contrast hyper-technical metal passages with spacey and quiet acoustic based interludes. A recent tour with Behold The Arctopus and Dysrhythmia brought attention to the band and they plan on continuing the momentum with additional shows in 2008.

The band is always interested in presenting their work with interesting graphics. They are honored to have noted low-brow artist Mars-1 provide the cover art. Once again the album was produced by Jamie King (of Between The Buried and Me fame) and mastered by Grammy winning engineer Bob Katz.

The tracklist includes: 1-The Binaural Beat, 2-Reflections Carried to Mirror, 3-Chromatic Dusk, 4-Patterns Spiral into Swarm, 5-Heat Distortion Manifest, 6-Photovoltaic, 7-Solar Droid, 8-The Unknowable and Defeating Glow.

The album is available right now at all good record stores, including Archambault. For those eager to see the band live, they will perform at the ProgDay festival in North Carolina this August.

The Musical Box: A new show, a new lineup...
The Musical Box is moving on to new things. The renowned Genesis tribute band will take on a new challenge. After nearly 15 years at the helm of the band doing Gabriel-era performances, Denis Gagné, lead singer of the band steps down because the Musical Box will now present for the very first time a post-Gabriel era show... The Trick of The Tail tour! The new lineup will include David Myers on keyboards in the role of Tony Banks, François Gagnon on guitars in the role of Steve Hackett, Sébastien Lamothe on bass in the role of Mike Rutherford, Gregg Bendian (who originally replaced Martin Levac a year ago) on drums in the role of Bill Bruford, and the new guy... introducing Rob Belgard on lead vocals and drums in the role of Phil Collins. Visit their website where you'll see the setlist, the lineup and all the details of the brand new show.

A fantastic show, both visually and musically, as the band will interpret the 1976 performances of the
Trick of the Tail tour, featuring at the time guest musician Bill Bruford. And just as it marked a new era for Genesis, this show will be a brave new frontier for The Musical Box as they will reproduce in painstaking detail the setlist, the special effects and lasers, the projections just as Genesis presented on that breakthrough tour in the mid 70s. TMB's new world tour will begin with its european leg from September through November 2008, and you can look forward to see them on this side of the Atlantic in early 2009!

The Musical Box: One more time in Québec...
After the remarkable success of their last great show at the Bell Center a few weeks ago, and after the news that the band was moving on to a new tour and a new lineup, The Musical Box in its current incarnation will perform one more time, for what may be their biggest and greatest show... they are going to fill the slot left vacant by Yes at the Quebec Summer Fest!

The famed Genesis tribute band will perform their "Black show" of the
Selling England by the Pound tour, a rarely seen, highly captivating version of their regular "white" show, with different costumes and a slightly different setlist. The Musical Box is composed of François Gagnon on acoustic and electric guitars, Sébastien Lamothe on bass, bass pedal and guitars, Gregg Bendian on drums, percussion and vocals, Dave Myers on keyboards and piano and Denis Gagné on vocals and flute. The band will be on the Bell Stage (the vast outdoor stage on the Plaines D'Abraham) of the Summer Fest, Saturday July 12 2008 at 9:30 PM, right after the California Guitar Trio.

We all recall earlier this spring when Yes singer Jon Anderson suffered a severe asthma attack and because of that unfortunate health scare, the entire Yes 40th anniversary tour has been officially cancelled, including their long awaited performance at the Summer Fest.

Dweezil Zappa and his glorious Zappa Plays Zappa team will be at the fest on
Sunday, July 6 2008 and also on that same day before ZPZ, none other than the Adrian Belew Power Trio!

Other invited artist include Fanfare Pourpour and Feist on the 5th, The Blind Boys of Alabama on the 6th, Classic canadian rockers Honeymoon Suite on the 9th, Les Batinses, Great Big Sea and The Secret Machines on the 10th, California Guitar Trio with Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto on the 12th. This year's edition will be held from
Thursday, July 3 to Sunday, July 13 2008, at various locations in the heart of Quebec City, including the gigantic stage of the "Plaines d'Abraham". Access to the festival, as in previous years, will be possible with the purchase of a $20 badge, valid for the entire duration of the festival.

Univers Zéro: a new band member...
These are the latest news from Daniel Denis, leader of Univers Zéro: "Recently we have taken the hard decision to continue without Andy Kirk. Besides his good humanity side and his great musicianship, he was quite unavailable for demand that band needs now, due to his duties with his new job. Also, the directions, envisaged by Andy for UZ's future, were not shared by the others members of the band. We wish him the best of luck in his new endeavor. We will try to have Andy enhancing Univers Zero at Le Triton, next October, for a DVD recording. He will sit in to play Warrior and Funeral Plain. We are very excited to announce that the keyboard seat will be filled by Pierre Chevalier, which was invited to play with Univers Zero in 1999, in a line up that never really existed. Pierre is the keyboardist of Present and he will be the right guy to play our music." Daniel Denis, May 2008

Yes tour officially cancelled
Legendary rock band Yes announced today (June 4th) that the group will unfortunately be cancelling their 2008 40th Anniversary Tour. The 26-city tour was scheduled to kick off at the Quebec Summer Festival next month and run through the summer.

Said Jon Anderson, “In the wake of my recent respiratory attack, doctors have advised me to spend the coming months resting and recovering. Unfortunately, this means I won't be able to tour with Yes this summer as originally planned. I'd like everyone know how deeply disappointed I am by this turn of events. I was looking forward to celebrating our music with the amazing family of Yes fans once again; but as we all know, health must come before anything else. Wishing you all the very best...”

Said Chris Squire, “We were all looking forward to performing for our fans after a prolonged leave of absence from touring. I am especially regretful of the fact that I know many of our fans and friends have probably laid out non-refundable airfares and hotels, etc. in order to enjoy the Yes shows this summer. Please join me in wishing Jon a speedy return to health, which at this point in time is our main concern.”

Yes frontman and founding member Jon Anderson was admitted to the hospital last month after suffering a severe asthma attack. He has now been diagnosed with acute respiratory failure and was told by doctors this weekend that he needs to rest and not work for a period of at least six months or suffer further health complications. Upon receiving this news the band has determined that their tour plans need to be put on hold.

Gillett Entertainment Group is proud to announce the creation of HEAVY MTL, a unique event in North America, which will take place on Saturday June 21st and Sunday June 22nd 2008 at Parc Jean-Drapeau. Loud, intense, heavy, HEAVY MTL will feature over 30 hard rock and metal bands performing on different stages located outdoors on the breathtaking site that is the Saint-Hélène Island.

Following yesterday’s (April 15) press conference held in Los Angeles, Mötley Crüe revealed that the original members of the band (Bass guitarist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, lead guitarist Mick Mars and singer Vince Neil) will go on tour this summer as part of “
Crüe Fest 08”.. During the press conference, Mötley Crüe also announced that they will release “Saints of Los Angeles,” their first new studio album recorded with all of the original band members in over a decade, on June 17th.

Latest additions to the lineup are Warrant, Your Favorite Enemies and Deathboat. Sadly, because of a scheduling conflict, Rev Theory had to pull out of the lineup at the last minute.

John Rutsey dead at 55
Rush founding member John Rutsey passed away over the weekend according to Rush's management company Anthem. He was 55. Rutsey was famous for playing on Rush’s 1974 debut album, including the song In The Mood, before deciding to leave the group due to health concerns. Rutsey suffered from diabetes and was unable to go on extended tours with the group. Rutsey was replaced by drummer Neil Peart, which marked a turning point in the band’s sound towards progressive rock.

Rush formed in 1968 in Toronto and was originally composed of guitarist Alex Lifeson, bassist Jeff Jones (who shortly thereafter was replaced by Geddy Lee) and Rutsey. According to a 1989 interview with Alex Lifeson on the Rockline Radio program quoted by Wikipedia.org, Rutsey gave up playing drums shortly after he left the band and went into bodybuilding. He competed on an amateur level for a while, doing that for a few years. As of Monday afternoon, no official statement has been released on a cause of death, nor plans for a memorial service.

The Musical Box back at the Bell Center!
After the amazing success of their "Lamb Lies Down" show in November 2005 and their stunning performance of "Selling England By The Pound" in December 2006 at the Bell Center, Montreal's own The Musical Box is back this weekend for an encore performance of the "Selling England By The Pound" on Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Bell Center theatre.

The Musical Box's astonishingly accurate revivals of Genesis tours from the mid-1970s have brought them wide acclaim - not least from the original members of Genesis themselves.

Back by popular demand, The Musical Box will perform a meticulous recreation of the "
Selling England" show that was originally presented by Genesis in 1973 and 1974, this famous concert is still considered today as the pièce de résistance of  their career. Impressively, The Musical Box is the only group to have obtained the Worldwide License of Genesis and Peter Gabriel.

This particular performance at the Bell Center will be one of the last opportunities to see the "
Selling England by the Pound" for quite a while, as the band will be moving on to other things soon.

Tickets are $42.50 - $52.50 (+ service charges) available at the Bell Centre box office and at all Admission outlets. A Gillett Entertainment Group presentation!

And in the latest news... The Musical Box have announced a new European tour for the fall/winter of 2008...
Lamb Lies Down perhaps? Selling England? Foxtrot? No, believe it or not, they will be performing for the very first time the Trick of the Tail tour...

http://www.wiventertainment.com/wiv/shows/trick/pages_int/frames.html

There is little info at this time, but since it's a post-Gabriel era recreation, it will be interesting to see what TMB's lineup will exactly be for that tour.

TFK now a sextet!
This interesting bit of news from Roine Stolt's blog:

"Hey Flowerheads
Just a quick hello to tell We're alive. In fact we're alive to the point where we decided to rehearse a bit and to rehearse with two new members of the Flower Kings tribe. Two?...yes that's correct! Most of you are already familiar with Erik Hammarstöm who will play drums for TFK but we've decided to bring in yet another handyman. Ola Heden will sing, play keyboards, guitar, percussion... dance! Well, to augment where our little hands and heads are too busy... or used to be.

Here is a photo with the current line up of TFK.

Phil Collins retires for good...
Phil Collins, known best for his role as the lead singer and drummer in Genesis and in Brand X, appears to have dramatically announced his retirement from the music industry. In an interview with The Times newspaper, Collins said he had no plans to tour again and that any future writing was unlikely to become an album.

Collins’ bombshell comes at the end of an interview which sees him candidly talk about his career, including his 2001
Urban Renewal album, which was a compilation of famous hip-hop hits. Collins was also asked if he minded being most-known for one song, his famous In The Air Tonight, which was used recently in an advert for a chocolate company. “Do I mind? Well, if you’re ever remembered at all, it’s only usually for one or two things. With me, it’ll be: ‘He faxed his wife a divorce’, which is actually bollocks, but that’ll be on top of the headstone... And then, further down, you’ll have ‘Da-dum, da-dum’...” . (excerpts of an article by Jason Gregory)

TGF is a major part of the sound and energy of this band. A replacement will be hard to find.

New ProgQuébec releases
ProgQuébec will add three new releases to their catalog on May 27, 2008; Jacques Blais Thèmes, Offenbach St-Chrone de Néant and Offenbach Bulldozer.

Jacques Blais -
Thèmes: Outstanding album by talented songwriter and guitarist from the 70s which is about half-instrumental. Numerous musicians from Contraction perform on this (Lachapelle, Laferrière, Perrotte) and Christiane Robichaud even appears on one track. The material is very much in the same vein as Contraction's work even though the music is by and large composed by Blais. This gem is being remastered from the original tapes.

Offenbach -
St-Chrone de Néant: The second album by Offenbach, originally released in 1973. Offenbach is considered the definitive Montreal blues-rock band. Their earlier work is closer to organ-driven proto-prog/hard rock such as Deep Purple. This cult favorite album was recorded live in front of 5000 people at the St. Joseph's Oratory and is sung mostly in Latin, being their version of the Mass of the Dead. This album will be remastered from the original show recording and feature the remainder of the performance that was not included on the original album as bonus tracks.

Offenbach -
Bulldozer: The third album by Offenbach, also originally released in 1973. This was the soundtrack to a film by Offenbach member Pierre Harel. This album includes a few instrumentals as well as alternate versions of hits from their first album, Soap Opera. It is one of the most obscure early Offenbach albums and will finally be reissued in May with two bonus tracks.

Änglagård reunion?
The mythical swedish prog band Änglagård, considered by many to be the holy grail of contemporary progressive music, might be coming out of their long hibernation! The group, who often refers to itself as a "slug on valium" because of their inactivity, have been discussing the possibility of re-releasing their epic albums Hybris and Epilog, both of which are long out of print, and band members Jonas, Anna and Johan have been meeting weekly to play some new material... This is quite encouraging since the band had been inactive ever since their glorious performance at NEARFest in 2003. Änglagård producer Mattias Olson mentions this in his blog at http://www.myspace.com/Molesome, check out the entry for 2/22/2008.

Brett Kull says: "All of us are excited to see where the writing will take us. It is always an emotional journey and we look forward to conveying the finished product to you." With hard work and tight deadlines, they hope to be recording the album by April at Brett’s new studio called Area 602, followed by mixing and mastering in May.

Look forward to an update on echolyn's website soon, with new video and audio clips, commentaries of the writing and recording process. Also a page will be set up that will include new press photos, and artwork for download.
