Steve Hackett and his electric band
at the Place des Arts with special guest Renaissance!
FMPM and Get It Promotions are pleased to present a rare concert performance by STEVE HACKETT and his electric band, Friday July 9 2010 at Théâtre Maisonneuve, Place des Arts (175 Sainte-Catherine Street West, Montréal) with special guest RENAISSANCE as the opening band (see text below). STEVE HACKETT is renowned as an immensely talented and innovative rock musician. He was lead guitarist with Genesis as part of their classic line up with Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford. Between 1970 and 1977, HACKETT played on 6 studio albums: Nursery Cryme, Foxtrot, Selling England by the Pound, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, A Trick of the Tail and Wind & Wuthering, as well as 2 live albums: Genesis Live and Seconds Out. His guitar playing produced some of the most memorable moments of that fabled line-up including dramatic electric guitar solos as in Firth of Fifth as well as sensitive acoustic passages as in Blood on the Rooftops. Steve's Electric band consists of Roger King on keyboards, Gary O'Toole on drums, Nick Beggs on bass, Rob Townsend on brass and woodwind and Amanda Lehmann on guitar and vocals.
Following GENESIS, HACKETT began an impressive solo career releasing several highly-rated progressive rock albums including Voyage of the Acolyte and Spectral Mornings. He also formed super-group GTR with Steve Howe (Yes), and played with many renowned musicians such as Brian May (Queen), John Wetton (UK), and Ian Mosley and Pete Trewavas (Marillion). HACKETT also produced several award-winning classically-oriented albums featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra including A Midsummer’s Night Dream and Genesis Revisited.
HACKETT’s live electric concerts take fans on an extraordinary journey that covers many periods of his career from GENESIS and his early progressive solo work through to the present, woven together by his distinctive and melodic guitar playing. 2010 will cap HACKETT’s fourth decade as a professional musician and will also mark the year in which he and GENESIS are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Renaissance opening for Steve Hackett
on Friday, July 9 at la Place des Arts!
A very special treat for those who will be attending the Steve Hackett show, FMPM and Get It Promotions are proud to announce for the very first time in Montreal Renaissance as special guest to Steve Hackett on Friday, July 9, 2010 at Place des Arts' Théâtre Maisonneuve.
Renaissance's current resurgence coincides with the 40th anniversary of the classic English band's formation. 2009 saw singer Annie Haslam, whose five-octave voice is one of the most distinctive in rock history, reconnecting with longtime bandmate Michael Dunford, Renaissance's guitarist and principal composer. Haslam's soaring vocals and Dunford's evocative acoustic guitar work were cornerstones of the group's sound during its most prolific era, 1972-1978. So it's appropriate that the group launched its return to active duty with a series of intimate concerts in Fall 2009 for its loyal fans.
Renaissance's new lineup finds Haslam and Dunford joined by four world-class instrumentalists whose talents provide new creative blood, while maintaining the band's traditional standards of sterling musicianship. Keyboardist Rave Tesar and bassist/vocalist David J. Keyes are veterans of prior editions of Renaissance as well as several Haslam solo projects, while keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin's resume includes work with Yes, Camel, Debbie Harry, Meat Loaf and Francis Dunnery, and drummer Frank Pagano has collaborated with artists as diverse as Bruce Springsteen, Bette Midler, Barry Manilow and Smashing Pumpkins.
Now, Renaissance begins an exciting new chapter, while honoring its beloved body of vintage work. Haslam and Dunford promise that the new six-piece lineup will perform the band's timeless classics with the same care with which the material was originally crafted, while utilizing technological advances to reproduce the music's original symphonic textures like never before. They're also enthusiastic about introducing the music to a new generation of listeners as well as longtime fans.
"I'm thrilled to be performing these songs again, and to be performing them with Michael Dunford and a great group of musicians," Haslam states. "These songs are a big part of my life, so I'll be singing my heart out."
There are a few tickets still available, so act quickly before the show is sold out!
Is this going to be an amazing night of prog music or what ! ! !

Dan Fry leaves Magenta
Just announced a few days ago, Magenta's energetic bass player Daniel Fry has decided to leave the band. He will play one last gig with the group on March 13th at the Winters End Festival. Band leader Rob Reed commented:
"Dan has been a fantastic servant to Magenta during his 4 1/2 year tenure with the band. Both his playing skill and his onstage enthusiasm have, quite rightly, made him a favourite with the fans and have helped build Magenta’s considerable reputation as a live act. However, Dan now wants time to pursue his own musical projects outside of Prog and we respect that. While his departure is a huge disappointment to us all, he remains a great friend to the band and we can’t thank him enough for his remarkable contribution. He certainly will be a hard act to follow. We are currently holding auditions for Dan’s replacement so if you’d like to throw you hat into the ring (so to speak) we’d love to hear from you!"- Rob Reed
The group will be on hiatus until they find a new bass player and go back to the studios for a new album so it may be a while before we see Magenta live again...

After the huge successes of the recent albums In Absentia, Deadwing and Fear of a Blank Planet, Porcupine Tree has been dominating the charts and gaining popularity worldwide. The band is composed of Steven Wilson on vocals and guitars, Richard Barbieri on keyboards, Colin Edwin on bass, Gavin Harrison on drums and touring member John Wesley on guitars. The group will also be in Quebec City on Thursday, May 6 2010 at the Capitole de Québec.
Tickets for the show are now available through the Place des Arts website and cost from $21.81 to $41.30. The show will begin at 7:30 PM (and not 8:00 PM as previously stated).
Speaking of Porcupine Tree, Rush’s Neil Peart has been musing on music and PT. “I went to see a band called Porcupine Tree not long ago. And I was talking with (singer-guitarist) Steven Wilson. They just put out a 55-minute piece. That's a finger to the whole iTunes shuffle thing, and he intended it as such. And I thought, 'Yeah, that's another way of rebelling against it by just saying no.' There's too much lost in giving up the integrity of an album what it represents to you as a musician, and as a human being, for that matter. So I like that approach.” You can read the whole interview here.

A moving musical odyssey where vocals and violin blend seamlessly. The irish influences of Annie and Vanessa combine admirably with the bluesy side of Martin. Each musician brings an essential element to the music, but more importantly, they bring their passion, their depth and their soul. A moving show where intensity and power mix with their ethereal sensitivity. Tickets are available through TicketPro. The show will begin at 8:00 PM.

Musical Box back at the Bell Center
Genesis tribute band The Musical Box will be back at the Bell Center theater in Montreal to present its acclaimed "A Trick of the Tail" production next year, on Friday, June 4 2010. Tickets for that show will be available starting October 10 at 10:00 AM.
Montreal symphonic band Mystery will once again be the invited guest. Mystery's lead singer Benoit David replaced Jon Anderson last year during Yes' North-American tour in 2008.
This new tour of The Musical Box began in Oslo, Norway in September 2008 and has since stopped in many cities across Europe and America, including their visit last April 3 at the Bell Center.
This Genesis show dates back to 1976 when Peter Gabriel had just left the band a year before. The French Canadian team of The Musical Box is renowned worldwide for their meticulously renditions of the mythical concerts of the famous progressive band.
"With the help of the members of Genesis involved in the original show, Musical Box will present their new production "A Trick of the Tail" worldwide including all the original back projections, laser effects and light show as well as the original setlist as preformed by Genesis back in 1976, to recapture the atmosphere of this milestone in the band's history." as stated in a press release from Gillett Entertainment Group. Tickets are $44.50 and $54.50, available by phone at 514-790-2525 or online at www.geg.ca.
